Description: Baie James Expedition
Departure from Mont-Laurier


Day 1 Early in the morning, loading of the material and dogs in the trailer, departure in the truck to get to Matagami in Abitibi - approximately 600km - night at the motel.
Day 2 Departure at 8am towards Waskagamish - approximately 4 hours of travel.
At the arrival, last preparation and loading of the sleighs. Departure from Fort Rupert around noon towards ICE ROCH, a small island in the middle of nowhere, where we will set up the first camp.
Beginning of the great adventure!
Day 3 to 10 The pack ice, the sun at dawn and at twilight, the Northern Lights, they will all be there every day. From an island to another, unusual encounters, like the seals and the wild geese, will surprise more than a few.
Running alongside the coast, towards "pointe au bois brûlé", we will go towards Jacob Island, getting out of Rupert River.
Depending of the weather and trail conditions, we will travel from Charleton Island to Trodlerg, where we will build an igloo for our camp.
Then head for Weston Island, to join the Estmain River towards the "Old Trading Post".
We will follow the coast towards the Kamuwashauhkau reefs and get to Chrissy Thomey passage.
After a last bivouac towards Stag Roch, we will be back on solid ground, taking Rupert River to get to our departure point in the morning.
Day 10 and 11 Return to Mont Laurier


Depending of the weather and snow conditions, the circuit is subject to changes in the timing. The return to Mont-Laurier could be done between the 10th and 12th day.

So make sure you project 12 days.

This is an expedition for an experimented clientele in winter camping and in conditions that can be extreme. REQUIRED AGE is between 18 and 60 years old.
Excellent physical and psychological conditions are needed with no health problem.

Included in the expedition: a dog team of 8 to 10 dogs, depending of the weight of the client.
Sleeping bag/tent/food during all the expedition/ 2 nights in a motel.
Air Medic Insurance (aerial repatriation), satellite phone.

Minimum: 2 participants / maximum 4 participants
